How to get Opossums Out from Inside a Wall

Your Naples home is the biggest and maybe the most important investment you will make in your life. You will spend more on your home than you will on anything else, outside of your children’s care that is, and this means you want to protect that investment as much as you can.

There are times when that investment can be in real trouble. Flooding and storms mold and mildew, and other things can cause the home to face a real risk of being damaged, and this can be a scary reality for any person. This is also true of wild Naples animals, who can take up residence in the walls of your home. One of these that can be really pesky is the Florida opossum. Because these animals are nocturnal, they sleep all day and get up at night. That means when you are trying to sleep they are just waking up and ready to start making a lot of noise. That can be extremely annoying, but can also be an advantage to you.

Clearly, if you have a Naples possum in your walls you want it out, but except for calling an exterminator you may have no idea how you would go about doing it. Here are some things to do to get it out. As mentioned, these are nocturnal animals, which you will be able to use to your advantage. What you need to do is to listen for when it gets up and starts moving around as it turns to dusk so you know where it is at. It is likely that it returns to its nest by morning, and that spot you need to know. Once you know where the nest is, the next step is to find where it is getting in and out of your Florida home. This entryway is likely in a crack or hole in the siding, or in a spot where the ground has been dug out and this is how it is gaining entrance. You will need to get some materials that will close that hole, but do not do that until after you have gotten it out of the walls.

You will also want to make sure that there are no additional entryways. There could be more than one way the Florida possum is getting in and out. If you find more than one, close up all but one, with the one closest to the nest being the one you leave open. Next, as it is getting to be dark, start playing really loud music up against that wall. That will scare the possum and it will begin to run out of the walls. Once it does, go out and close that entryway, so that it cannot get back in. Now, you will need to clean the inside of the walls, which may require a Naples professional service to do so.
